As You Walk On By
So I've been learning how to make fire in Maya, right? Well, my first attempt didn't look all that great :/
But regardless, I took my newfound knowledge and happily (and probably a bit manically) added it to my watch scene.
My first attempt in making my own fire ended up as an evil little thing on its own. I mean, it has horns and everything. Pure. Evil. Fire.
I also changed a bit of the watch, smoothing the top metal pieces and altering the material on it. I added in an HDR image-based light, which really helped achieve this sort of fiery lighting that I'm after.
Behold my creation.

To the Dark Side
Adjusted the positioning of the watch so that the face is easier to see. I made it draped over one of the back bricks.

Weird Night
I nixed the fire. I have a different way to go about getting the fire into the scene, but I'll have to work on that next week. I added another light, this time a spot light on the right side of the scene, so that the face could be seen a little better. Probably gonna be adding more or just seeing how the fire lights up the scene.
Render sans fire.

Raging On
Messing around with fire and such. I do enjoy fire. A lot. ALOT OF FIRE!!
I didn't draw that...I wish I did...but I didn't.
Meanwhile back at the ranch.
This is coming along quite nicely in my opinion.
12:40pm render.
Decided to add in some dirt because of reasons. Also, I'm not too thrilled with the main ground plane...not too sure what to use for it. I'm also looking to either /borrow/ or make some blades of grass to sprinkle around.
1:00pm render.
I replaced the burnt ash ground thing for concrete, and I like the way that looks better. I also added in a directional light near the rubble on fire so that it looks like the fire is illuminating the back edges of the watch.
1:15pm render.
I changed the quality of the renders to production, which causing it to take longer, but it comes out a lot better than whatever other quality I had on there (draft, I think). I also shattered the glass bit of the watch face and now have a dirty glass texture on there. I'm trying to get smoke or embers or something to be around the thing, but I'm really not sure if that's gonna work.
2:00pm render.

Boom, Headshot
Added in some visual elements that I think work quite nicely with what I seem to be obsessed with as of late.
I love the post-apocalyptic/abandoned/broken down type of thing. The first thing to pop into my mind for this project was a watch (the type had yet to be determined at that point) lying on the ground amid some form of mess, whether in a field or something, with the screen cracked, the hands frozen...
But I'm making a somewhat digital watch, the atomic watch, which (to me) just adds a little more irony into the scene.
Knife Party
"Destroy them with lazers."
Figuring out the relation of the watch face to the wristband.
The watch face is coming along quite nicely, and I changed the studs to spikes, because of reasons. I'll probably end up changing them back though and just having some weird scatter-plot ish arrangement. Hm.

Plain Old Lousy Luck
I went home over the weekend, so I don't have any work to show for what I did over the weekend because I did nothing. I did things on Friday.
So here's a screenshot of the fatter and somewhat better watch piece.

I'm Hangin' On
"The broken lights on the freeway left me here alone. I may have lost my way, but I haven't forgotten my way home."
Got the POLICE lettering into the mesh. The geometry is 50 Shades of Messed Up.
This is so difficult I can't even. lol
